What is it?
  • It has replaced the paper tickets and park passes used at the six participating parks.
  • It stores monetary value.
  • It is re-usable i.e. more value can be added.

  • Objectives of SmartCard
  • To improve revenue collection.
  • To improve management systems and data collection.
  • To improve customer service.

  • Which parks have SmartCard facilities?
  • Nairobi, Lake Nakuru, Aberdare, Amboseli, Tsavo East and Tsavo West National Parks.
    Who needs a SmartCard?
  • All visitors to the six National Parks aged 18 years and above.
  • Accompanying adults will cater for children under 18 years.

  • How does the system work?
  • P.O.I. (Point of Issue): The visitor will be issued with the SmartCard at the POI and their details put on the card. Proof of identity is required for a citizen and resident cards. POIs are located at Nairobi Park Main Gate, Lake Nakuru Park Main Gate, Tsavo East Main Gate (Voi), and Mombasa KWS Offices.

  • P. O. S. (Point of Sale): A sales office where visitors pay money to be loaded on the card. POS's are located in Nairobi Park Main Gate, Lake Nakuru Park Main Gate, Tsavo East Park Main Gate (Voi), Aberdare Hqs., Mombasa KWS Offices, Malindi Marine Park, Amboseli Park Meshanani Gate, Tsavo West Mtito Andei Gate.

  • P.O.A. (Point of Access): This is a Park entry point (gates). A visitor will produce the card and the appropriate amount deducted depending on the visitor category.

  • Main Features of the System
  • All payments for park fees is done at the POS.
  • All visitors to the park need a card corresponding to their residency status.
  • Resident and citizen visitors are issued with personalised card
  • Non-residents are issued with a generic card which they must surrender on exit.
  • Schools are issued with special school cards.
  • Tour Operators are issued with a SmartCard that allows them to pay for large groups.
